High-density automation for large-scale retail: efficiency and speed in a greenfield warehouse
In collaboration with a leading European system integrator, Eurofork contributed to the automation of a greenfield warehouse for a Spanish company operating in the large-scale retail sector. The project involved the implementation of a highly automated system for handling unit loads transported on pallets weighing up to 1,200Kg (2,645.5lb), ensuring high storage capacity, operational reliability and performance aligned with productivity targets.

Requirement
The end user’s greenfield warehouse covers a total area of approximately 12,350m2 (132,934sq ft), with a height of around 15m (49ft). Of this, 7,000m2 (75,347sq ft) are dedicated to the automated warehouse, designed to efficiently support the entire logistics flow.
In this context, the customer required a solution capable of handling high operational complexity and large throughput volumes. The system needed to ensure the continuous and efficient management of large quantities of pallets with a high number of SKUs coming from production, while maximizing space efficiency through optimal use of both the available floor area and vertical space.
Another key requirement was the ability to guarantee fast, consistent and reliable operating cycles, which are essential to sustain high productivity levels. At the same time, the system needed to ensure seamless integration among the various material handling technologies within the facility – such as stacker cranes, conveyors and AGVs – in order to create a smooth, coordinated and efficient logistics flow.
